![]() If you intend to push the argument further, please try to address all arguments mentioned previously. I noticed some bugginess when attempting to rename MP3 files by their ID3 tags when there was no ID3 v1 data. However the interface is a little messy, only supports a few EXIF tags, and there is no support for ID3 v2. We try to exclude features that could be implemented externally to keep the complexity of the code at minimum. Bulk Rename Utility is easy to use, powerful, and highly functional with excellent help files, suggestions, and examples. As I said, if you don't want to use a shell command, you can always use an external tool for this purpose. I have tried ranger, and it seems that it launches an editor to get the new names, which is appropriate as a shell command or an external tool. Renaming hundreds of files can be daunting, so a good start is placing files in subject or keyword-named folders. I don't see any advantages for having a builtin bulkrename as there is no ui involvement. Rename them with key words, such as a person’s name, an event, or a date. In this case, implementing it as a builtin had some advantages such as being able to put the current file name to the command line and having a prompting mechanism that would work without hitting the enter key, that were otherwise difficult to implement if not impossible. However, if you need to make complex changes to filenames in bulk, the best tool for the job is Bulk Rename Utility (BRU). ![]() I agree everyone has different expectations for nearly everything, though the extend of this difference is much higher for bulkrenaming.Įven for rename command we had a discussion whether we should have it as a builtin or leave it as a custom command. Most people expect a file manager to be able to rename a file by prompting a new name, though there are many file managers that do not provide a bulkrename functionality. Bulk Rename Utility is a simple, easy-to-use tool that allows you to choose between various options for renaming your files. I don't think it's fair to compare bulkrename to one of our builtin commands, say like rename. ![]()
